I love this pedal. I would not think about going to a pedal that is nothing more then a clip on a stick. I couldn't imagine going to a Time or Shimano combo as their clip mechanisms stick up well above the platform surface rendering the platform useless.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:It's very easy to get your foot on the pedal and the wiggle your cleat into clip. When you REALLY need a pedal after a dab, you'll be happy about the platform. The concave design allows for three points of contact on your shoes.
Product Weaknesses:I've broken three axles. I am a big guy. Crank Brothers sent me replacements each time promptly. I think they improved the quality of the medal they use as I haven't snapped an axle in over a year. I'm a big guy who rides from 275# to 290#. It's not unusual for me to break parts.

Tom a Weekend Warrior from Los Angeles, Ca writes:
The cleats are made of soft metal so that the cleats wear out and not the pedals. Think about it...would you rather replace $20 cleats or $80 pedals? Good pedals that give you eggbeaters and a nice platform for support. I wish they had more agressive grip plates though.
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:Platforms + Eggbeaters. You can unclip when the trail gets more technical. You have platforms to pedal on for daily commutes (when you dont feel like wearing special shoes). Easy in easy out design.
Product Weaknesses:Over the rough stuff, the platforms dont grip very well when you arent clipped in so my feet slip off a lot. It can be very painful when that happens.

Grady a XC Rider from Flower Mound, Tx United States writes:
I really liked these pedals, but after a little over two years (right after the warranty ran out) the left pedal fell completely off the spindle. I took the pedal apart and found the bushing that was supposed to hold the platform onto the spindle had completely disintegrated. Apparently this is a common symptom of these pedals, because when I went to crankbrothers.com, they offer a rebuild kit for just this kind of problem for $15 or so. No thanks. I still have cheapie off-brand SPDs that still work from the late 90s, pedals that still get a lot of use on my hard-tail...and now do double duty on my FS Turner. For the money I paid for the mallets, I expected them to last a lot longer. And what is up with the brass cleats? They wear down in no time flat, and then you have to pay another $20 or so for replacements. Pretty soon these pedals will get really expensive.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:easy in and out, large platform easy to find and stable, sheds mud well
Product Weaknesses:durability (read below), cleats made of brass wear out really quick
