these pedals do what they are intended to do dispite the wieght. they are very reliable and work in the snow. it is easy to clip in even when their is mud in them.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:it is very nice to have the option of unclipping and having a nice platform when it comes to rough pacthes in the trail. Clipping in and out is very easy. I have had them on multiple bikes including a downhill bike. They can take alot of abuse.
Product Weaknesses:very heavy, when riding my feet often slip off the plat form side, not very good grip.
My Bike:Trek fuel Ex 8 with XTR/XTR, easton carbon bars and seatpost, mavic wheelset, fox 100 rlt and rear fox rp3, Custom paint and a hollow pin chain

This is a solid pedal. I've ridden this pedal on all my bikes for the past 3 years and they have never failed. They reliable and durable for real mtn bike riding, not just as a city commuter pedal. The platform side is actually usable. Other clipless that offer a platform around the SPD or binding section are as useful as a platform pedal because the binding rises above the platform. As a result those styles don't give you a solid surface contact. This is where the Shimano pedal is better. I use my hardtail for everything from the trails to commuting, so this pedal has been a good buy.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:- Best of both worlds
- Durable/Reliable
Product Weaknesses:- Some times have to fiddle around to flip desired side up

This is the first pair of pedals I have used without the old toe clip cages. What an improvment! Nice thing about this paticular model is the clip/platform design, clip in for a long ride or use the platform if you are just going down the street. Preformance and convenience in one.
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:They work without problems. Easy to set up. Easy to use, snap in and out without looking or fumbling, just slip into the catch push down and go. Releases just as easy, turn foot and your out, after one or two times it's a normal movement, never feel "trapped in the pedal"
Product Weaknesses:Just one, relectors. They are designed for a casual rider who wants to upgrade from a standard pedal to an SPD type pedal, someone who is still doing most of their riding on bike trails and streets, include the reflectors!

Scott a Weekend Warrior from Fontana, Ca United States writes:
Great pedal. I would buy it again. Typically reliable Shimano quality and construction. Works great with both cleated shoes and street shoes.
Product Used For: 3 Months
Product Strengths:A great pedal. I wasn't sure about using clipless pedals especially in the dirt. These offer the best of both worlds. I use the clipless side on the street when I want pedal efficiency and the platform side in the dirt when i want to be able to leave the bike if necessary. They are easy to hook up to and release from. The perfect pedal for those just learning to go clipless.
Product Weaknesses:It takes some time to feel what side of the pedal is up.
