For 2+ years I've been using these pedals and still work like new. Unbelievable. I have taken some nasty crashes and they keep ticking. All-Mountain, XC, endurances, epics. In my opinion the best pedal under $100.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:Durable, clip in/out, power transfer, cheap
Product Weaknesses:Weight
My Bike:Geared, singlespeed

The PD-M540 is a must have for anybody who needs spd-pedals, which can withstand a thorough beating, and still perform as new. I'll order another pair for my second road-bike, which currently runs on reserve pedals.
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:Solid cleat lock and hold, indestructible design. I blew the PD-M520 pedals in less than 4 weeks of riding (@1000km/month), the PD-M540 still ride as new, even though I've fallen off my bikes a few times already. The amount of strength transferred via these pedals to my drive-train is much more than with my 'reserve' pedals.
Product Weaknesses:None found (and I looked!)

If you're going to upgrade ONE thing on a bike do the pedals. As far as I can tell the only thing that'll actually make you a faster rider is the addition of clipless pedals. Everything else on my bike is nice "bling" but doesn't really make it that much faster. (though it does shift nice now) These pedals are great, they can take a MAJOR beating and still work like new, you can't even read the "Shimano" logo on mine anymore from crashing them into every type of bone breaking disaster imaginable and they still work literally as good as the day I bought them. I've had absolutely ZERO problems with them. They're easy to get into and out of with a little practice and after about a week it's like you've been riding with them forever. I've used Candy pedals and prefer the SPD type (no particular reason though, both are pretty good)
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:They just work. They're reliable, comfortable, adjustable, and as far as I can tell indestructible. Installation and adjustment are super easy and only require a set of Allen wrenches. Cleats for them are easily available, last a long time, and are fairly cheap. Nearly identical to the astronomically priced XTR pedals with the exception of the price tag.
Product Weaknesses:None that I've been able to find. Never tried the Shimano 520s but you may be able to get about the same performance for a little less money with them.
My Bike:Specialized Hardrock (don't laugh), Mavic wheels, Deore hubs, XT cassette, PC991 chain, Truvativ Stylo 3.3 cranks, XO rear mech, XO trigger shifters

These are reliable and take a beating. They engage and disengage predictably and well. They shed mud well, look decent, and are half price of the top end xtr pedals but look nearly identical and weigh only 20grams more per pair.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:Great entry and exit, comfortable, long lasting and take a beating. I had a pair of these and a pair of the new high end and newly "lighter" XTR PD-M970s. The 970s weighed in only 20 grams lighter per pair!

these pedals are smooth. in every way imaginable. the finish and quality are great, clipping in and out is smooth and consistent, not to mention easy. jest step rightin, twist out. i would recommend multi-release cleats, however. better in those "uh oh" situations. stay calm and you'll get your foot out. feet stay in in chatter, and the bike is much more easily maneuvered. i would recommend these pedals to anyone.
Product Used For: 1 Month
Product Strengths:easy in/out, smooth, reliable, consistent in/out feel.
Product Weaknesses:does not come with multi-release cleats
My Bike:'05 Jamis Dakar XLT
