Great for a functional, riding bike that needs to work every day. will handle full range of front and rear gear sizes. Just works.
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:The real value of this particular part is it is very good quality for commuter/road riding/touring. Think cyclocross bike turned into commuter, or something with a rack and panniers on it...older steel framed bike -with a double up front and a megarange on the rear with friction shifting. This is a perfect der for that type of bike especially at this price. I have put thousands and thousands of miles on this model.
My Bike:numerous commuting steel frames

The bottom line is that this is a comfort bike level derailleur and is not appropriate for anyone who really wants/needs to be confident in the shifting action. As I stated before, this is going on my girlfriend's mountain bike. It'll be a good beginner/light use piece for sure, especially considering the price.
I would give it a one star if it was over twenty bucks.
Product Used For: 3 Months
Product Strengths:Very inexpensive. I would say it's a definitely an OK derailleur for the money, decent value. I will be buying this for my girlfriend's mountain bike.
Product Weaknesses:I ride this derailleur way past what it's supposed to do. I ride a lot of roller coaster trails that require lots of shifting and even shifting under power. This thing is very unreliable for these conditions. It doesn't want to stay adjusted for the life of me. So far I've been lucky that it hasn't skipped while I'm standing on it.
For quick downhill/uphill transitions, it shifts way too slowly and tends to be hesitant to shift and will stutter under power. It really kills momentum and quickly becomes frustrating when you lose confidence in it. After riding it for 3 months, it's time to let it go.
My Bike:This came on my $1,000 FS bike (WHY???). I didn't care since the frame is what I wanted.

great product for riders on a budget and holds up well for the money. shifting is quite good for a budget part.
Product Used For: 1 Year
Product Strengths:$20 can't go wrong. Shifts well and holds up to some mild abuse. even with damaged cage and hangers it still shifts well enough to get you back. Hanger snapped before anything else gave out. Recommended for price!!
Product Weaknesses:This is my second one in the last season due to bent cages but for $20 you can't expect something bullet proof. spring is a little weak

no problems. its being used on a trail bike so not to important to be Uber light. not quite race worthy though. get an XT if your racing
Product Used For: 2 or More Years
Product Strengths:shifts well and fast(for the price of course its no XTR thats for sure.) awsome spare part to keep in your spares bin to use when you break one till you get another, cheap
Product Weaknesses:cheap so not as good performance or as light as say an XT but other than that nothing. oh and the issue people have of it hitting the chainstay. it will happen with any shimano derailleur

I am contacting Jenson to return this one as well, of course Jenson is always great about this kind of thing.
Product Used For: 1 Month
Product Strengths:Built with shimano quality, shifts well.
Product Weaknesses:There is something wrong with the tension spring inside the part that bolts onto the frame. It allows the derailuer to bounce up and hit the frame when on fast bumpy terrain, which is of course most of the time. This is my second one in a month.
