Forged out of the frigid winters of Minneapolis, Minnesota, 45NRTH, pronounced 45 North, is a pioneering brand, looking to redefine the way we ride in the winter. While many cycling apparel companies make jackets, pants, and cold-weather gloves, 45NRTH takes it a step further. They cast a wide net, making full kits for temperatures ranging from -25° to +45° because, in Minneapolis, they know what real cold is. So whether you’re commuting to work through sleet, or having a blower pow day in the backcountry on your fat bike, 45NRTH has the gear you need.
On top of cold weather apparel, 45NRTH also makes awesome components. One of their most exceptional lines of products is their tires. For years, people have been trying and failing, to make a bike that rides well in the snow. But it wasn’t until the inception of the fat bike that riding in the snow became realistic. Having wider tires is only half of the equation, though. For a bike to ride well in the snow, it also has to have unique tread. That’s where 45NRTH came in. They developed tires that accelerate and brake well in the snow, and offer ample bite on both climbs and descents. And when the conditions are just too icy for rubber alone, they also offer aluminum carbide studs. 45NRTH’s studs work the same way chains work on car tires in the snow, digging down through the slippery surface to secure the grip. With 45NRTH on your side, no amount of bad weather can stop you. Because if a Minnesota winter can’t keep you off your bike, what can? 45NRTH has two main types of tires for riding in the snow: commuting tires and mountain biking tires.
Their apparel is broken down into temperature ratings. You wouldn’t ride in 10° weather with the same gear you wear in 40° weather. Their gear includes everything from jackets, cycling caps, balaclava, gloves, socks, pants, bibs, and so much more. For ultra-cold mountain biking, they have pogies, like the Cobrafist, which go over the handlebars to provide your hands with comfort, control, and most importantly warmth.
So whether you’re looking for apparel for your cold weather riding adventures, tires to ride the icy terrain, or just a pair of socks to keep you warm when it’s chilly out, then you’ll find everything you need with 45NRTH and Jenson USA.
