Your bike arrives built, tested, and tuned. Three things stand between you and the trail, and they are the only ones we cannot do for you.

Mountain Bike

Road Bike

Gravel Bike

If your build has suspension: a suspension fork or dropper post has its own settings. Check the manual for recommended air pressure and rebound.

Electric MTB

Unboxing and final assembly, start to finish. Watch this before you pick up a tool.

E‑MTB: some models route a Shimano Di2 E‑tube cable through the bar and into the stem. Take care that it isn't pinched when you reposition the bar.

E‑bike check: charge the battery fully before the first ride, confirm it is seated and locked, and check that the display powers on. You will cycle the assist modes during the test ride in step 03.

Electric Road

02Installation & Setup

 
What You’ll Need
15–20 Min
That's all most final assemblies take, start to finish. No rush — do it once, do it right.
Basic Tools
A multi-tool or set of hex keys, and a torque wrench if you have one. 
Clear Space
A flat area to work in. No repair stand? No problem — the assembly video for your bike type shows how to use the box to help hold the bike upright.
Handlebars
  • Torque the handlebar and stem bolts to the manufacturer's spec — usually printed right on the stem or the bar.
  • Torque the headset bolts to spec as well.

Some builds need an extra bolt or cable check. Those are listed under your bike type above.

Pedals
  • The right pedal (R) threads clockwise into the right crank. The left pedal (L) threads counter‑clockwise into the left crank.
  • Grease the threads before installing, then torque both to the manufacturer's spec.

Most Important Step

03Take the Parking Lot Test Ride — Not on Dirt

 

Set up and aired up? Take the bike out on pavement — not dirt — before you hit the trail or the road. This is your last chance to catch anything before the real ride.

  • Shift through every gear, front and rear.
  • Cycle your suspension and confirm it moves smoothly.
  • Test both brakes firmly at low speed.
  • Pay attention to fit — this is a good gut check on sizing.

Brake bed‑in: we bed brakes in during assembly, but it's worth repeating on your first ride. Accelerate to a moderate speed, squeeze firmly until just before stopping — no skidding — then release. Repeat 8–10 times per brake.

On an e‑bike? Power the system up and cycle through every assist mode while you ride. Confirm the motor engages smoothly in each one and that the display and battery are reading correctly.

01Something isn't right — who do I call?
Call a Jenson Gear Advisor at 888-880-3811, or reach us by email. Have your order number handy — it's on your order confirmation — plus a short description or a photo of what you're seeing. Our advisors work on these bikes every day and can usually sort it on the first call.
02My bike didn't come with pedals. Is that normal?
For most bikes, yes. Pedals are one of the few genuinely personal contact points on a bike, so the majority of mid‑ and high‑end models ship without them and leave the choice to you. If you need a set to get rolling, there's a solid starting pair in First‑Ride Gear above. Not sure what fits your cranks or your shoes? A Gear Advisor will match them in about two minutes.
03I’m missing a part. Where should I look first?
The first place to check is your New Bike Day accessories box. Our bike build team puts any small parts that may come off the bike in shipping into that box, along with any owner's manuals or installation guides the manufacturer includes with your new bike. We also ask that you thoroughly search the shipping box, in case something got bumped around in transit. Still can't find the part you're looking for? 04Something arrived damaged. What now?
Contact a Gear Advisor with your order number and a photo of the damage. Over 20 years of shipping bikes, we've refined our packaging to keep your bike as secure as possible, but in rare cases shipping damage may still occur. Our Gear Advisor team is here to help, and we'll work swiftly to find the resolution that keeps you pedaling.
05What torque specs should I use?
Most are printed right on the part — check the stem face, the handlebar clamp area, and the seatpost collar. Anything unmarked will be in that component's manual. If you can't find the number, call a Gear Advisor before you guess. Over‑torquing a carbon bar or post is a much bigger problem than leaving a bolt slightly loose and coming back to it.
06My e‑bike won’t power on, or the battery isn’t charging.
E‑bikes ship with a partial charge, so top the battery off completely before your first ride. For e‑bikes with an external removable battery, confirm it is fully seated and locked into place. Check all the connections to your display as well — a disconnected display can stop the bike from turning on. And on bikes using a Shimano motor system, go back to step 01 and make sure all Shimano Di2 E‑tube cables are fully seated.
07What about returns and warranty?
Bikes are covered by the manufacturer's warranty, and Jenson stands behind every order. Hold on to your order confirmation — that's your proof of purchase.
