POC Sports is a Swedish company that produces life-saving products for cyclists and anyone who takes part in gravity sports. Having the best protective gear can save your life. They were founded in 2005 where they made their debut in the ski racing market. The ISPO trade show is where they introduced their mission. They brought new ideas and solutions to the table which were aimed at improving ski racing safety. They wanted to reduce the force transmitted to the brain and body in case of a crash, and this gained a lot of attention. The concepts, technologies, and materials used and implemented for the helmets and body armor were developed in close collaboration with the POC Lab. This is their scientific forum that consists of some of the world’s foremost sports medicine experts, brain scientists and specializes in spinal cord injuries.
During the 2006 Winter Olympics, US alpine ski racer, Julia Mancuso won the gold medal in giant slalom with pictures of her and her POC helmet and goggles being published all over the world. This win by Julia Manusco showed the world that POC Sports was here to stay. Since then, they have evolved and developed protection for different categories including freeskiing, snowboarding. and mountain bike disciplines. In 2014, they ventured into the cycling world and announced a 3-year partnership to become the official cycling helmets and eyewear supplier of Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team. Around this same time, they announced the launch of AVIP, which stands for Attention, Visibility, Interaction, and Protection. Avip was their first road bike range and their most ambitious initiative to date, promoting safety for road cyclists. To achieve the higher levels of performance, they established the WATTS Lab. This brings together knowledge from specialists in aerodynamics and is a highly specialized department whose main objective is to optimize POC cycling helmets and other products, allowing cyclists to go faster and be safer. The following year they released the Raceday collection, which built upon the AVIP range and featured a further optimized and enhanced fit for racing, giving cyclists the optimal equipment for racing.
