Whether building up a new road bike frame or gathering components to upgrade an existing steed, JensonUSA.com stocks a wide selection of complete build kits, including the ground breaking electronic and wireless SRAM Red eTap drivetrain.
For the uninitiated, road bike build kits include the essential components needed to control shifting and braking of your two wheeled dream machine. Take the SRAM Red eTap groupset, which comes with a pair of ergonomically designed shift levers, plus a front and rear derailleur, which together guide your chain up and down the chainrings and cassette cogs respectively.
What makes this particular build kit so unique is that there are no cables or wires needed to control your bikes gear selection. Instead it uses SRAM’s AIREA wireless and encrypted transmission technology, which makes set-up as simple as turning a few screws, charging the batteries (which attach directly to the front and rear derailleur), and completing a basic pairing process.
Arguably your toughest task will simply be to decide between the four primary options, which include standard SRAM Red eTap in either WiFLi or short cage configurations for bikes with traditional rim brakes, or SRAM Red eTap HRD, which works with increasingly popular disc brake equipped road bikes. The reason for this variance is that the standard rim brake levers have an appropriation for brake-controlling cables, while the HRD levers connect to hoses filled with hydraulic disc brake fluid.
The second consideration is choosing between a short cage or WiFLi set-up, which refers to the shifting range of your 11-speed rear derailleur. The short cage option is compatible with up to a 28t cog, while WiFLi can handle up to a 32t. If most of your rides are on flat or rolling terrain, the 28t option should suffice (and will be a tad lighter). But if you frequently tackle big climbs, having the extra range of a 11-32t cassette will make reaching the summit a more pleasant experience.
