"Best of both worlds" is correct
I would love to ride my Trek Madone with its Shimano 105 SPD-SL pedals full-time. Alas, my age has caught up with me...I am no longer agile enough to unclip fast enough on busy local streets. After one-too-many painful and embarrassing falls it was clearly time for a change. With the A530s I can still clip-in on long, unobstructed rides and use the platform side on stop-and-go city streets. I'm using the A530s on my Trek 7500 Hybrid as well.

Work great, dual role
I put these on my hardtail so I can just ride around the neighborhood with my kids, but I can still clip in for trail riding without changing anything. Has worked fine for me. I find the clipping the same as my 785 trail pedals. Sure they're heavy, but why would you put these on a race bike?

Good SPD for first timer
This was my first SPD and I wanted the ability to use it with regular shoes. The clip worked great with Shimano SH-RT32 shoes. The platform while large enough lacks a good grip, so it is ok with sneakers but not so good with dress shoes or sandals. Overall, I think it is a great SPD for commuter or fitness rider. Unfortunately, my TREK 7.2 where I had them got stolen last week (welcome to NYC). I am not sure what type of bike I am getting next, but the pedals are likely to be these again.

Always shimano
I've only used Shimano pedals so can't compare to others. Have always been satisfied with their product and this one is no different. Threw these on my single speed commuter and absolutely love it. Riding clipless is the way to go on a singlespeed. Have yet to use the platform side, but good to know it's there if I need to go around the corner and don't want to wear my bike shoes.

good for commuters
If you are a person that uses their bike for commuting and more serious riding then these pedals are for you. My commute is only 9 miles round trip so using SPD is not practical, but I love using SPD on my long weekend rides. These pedals allow me to do both. They can get slippery on the flats if its wet, so I'll be using SPD anytime it's raining.

There are better/cheaper options
There are better and cheaper options such as the Wellgo WPD-M-17C, which have substantially better platform grip. The clips on these are good, like most other Shimano clipless, but foot slides easily off the platform side as it's just a couple of smooth edges for grip.. forget it when wet. A design upgrade with the option for pins would make this a pretty good dual pedal. As they are, they're best for casual riders that want might want to try clipless but still have a platform, albeit not a good platform.

CONS: Very Poor Grip, Not The Lightest

Good SPD, Mediocre Platform
I bought these pedals for my commuter, and I'm happy to have the option to ride clipless or with street shoes. That said, I wouldn't necessarily call these pedals the best of both worlds, as the platform side is barely grippy enough. Some commenters mentioned struggling to find the right side of the pedal, however I felt like this was not a problem, as my feet could feel whether I was on the right side. If you lift the foot off the upside-down pedal, the rotation of the cranks will flip the pedal for you, and when you put your foot back down, it will be right-side-up! Granted, it is another thing to think about, but you don't need to take your eyes off the road. I wouldn't tell anyone to stay away from these, but I have my eye on pedals with more grip on the platform side if I were to get this kind again.

The flat side does not provide much grip
I bought these pedals for my commuting bike, which I also use for road training. The clip side works well, however, I the flad side lacks grip, especially when they are wet. The situation did not get any better after a few months of use as the "pins" wore out. After one year, I ended replacing them for a shimano M424, which provides much better grip on the flat side and also allows the installation of reflectors for increased safety at night.

Do these pedals fit the 2015 Specialized Crux Sport E5?
Ron on Sep 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I just took the pedals with the bike to a local bike shop and they replaced
the pedals for me. No problem there.
These pedals fit regular crank arms with regular screw threads. Pedal
threads in crank arms are pretty standard. Check with your local bike
mechanic.
