Surly Single Speed Cog

Surly's BMX / Singlespeed cogs fit the (common) splines of Shimano/SRAM and Shimano-compatible freehub bodies - thats virtually every MTB hub on the market today. Built of practically indestructible hardened chromoly steel, these cogs are ready to lick up what you dish out. Larger sizes include drillings to save weight.

  • Incredibly durable SCM-415 hardened chromoly steel
  • Designed for use with 3/32" (i.e., 8/9/10 speed) chains

Excellent
I love metal and things shaped like gears so this was perfect. Also, it took my 20 tooth rear cog down to 18 to give my single geared bike more pedal resistance which was nice.

I use this on my single speed cross bike. I have 19, 20, and 22, for different race conditions. Wider contact with the free hub for better stability. works well with Surly single speed conversion kit.

great product
great single speed cog. the 22t gives a great climbing gear combined with a 33t chainring.

people can say it's heavy, but 20g really doesn't make a big difference...

PROS: Durable

CONS: Bulky

Good quality, good price
The Surly cog is a great buy, it has a nice wide body that won't tear up your freehub and it fits well.

This does not come with a Singlespeed conversion kit, it is just the cog. If you are just converting be sure that you grab another pack that includes the full conversion kit with spacers and lock ring.

Works fine, cheaper options out there.
I was using this on my SS 29er but wanted to try some different gearings out. I bought a cheap multi-cog kit from here for the same price as this one cog. my legs can't tell the difference between the cheap ones and this one.

I bought a used single speed bike and wanted to start fresh with a new drivetrain. I bought the Surly single speed rear cog and certainly haven't regretted it. The fit and finish is first rate. It's pretty cool looking too. Surly makes great products and Jenson is a great place to get them. I would definitely recommend this product as well as Jenson USA.

Surly cog= no chain drops= happiness
Awesome cog. If you having problems with your single speed dropping chains you should try one of these. I had a cheap cog on my single speed and I kept dropping chains. I couldn't figure out why. I put one of these on and haven't dropped a chain since.

I recently bought a brand new back cog and when trying to fit it ended up realising it was not a perfect fit as the new cog had a larger tooth in a single spot on the inside. I'm wondering if the teeth on the inside are evenly spaced and equally sized?
Eric The Single Speeder on Aug 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: That doesn't sound normal. The inside of the cog should have equal spacing and fit a normal shimano freehhub
