Bicycles consist of many components. These include things like the wheels, drivetrain, brakes, stem, handlebar, grips, tires, saddle, and fork. There are different levels of quality when it comes to components with some components being better than others. Some components are made out of aluminum while nicer components are made out of carbon fiber.

What is the thing that holds the chain on a bike called?

The chain interacts with several different components on your bike. The chain is wrapped around the chainring and crankset up front and the cassette on the rear.
