Here's Giro's classic trail shoe, improved. The PrivateerR features a new nylon and rubber co-molded outsole for durability and improved grip on rocks or roots. The reinforced toe box has a rubber toe-guard for improved durability, but stays comfortable with a supple microfiber upper, two straps and a micro-ratcheting buckle. The stiff nylon outsole helps create a shoe that matches the performance of more expensive composite designs. Other highlights include aggressive lugs for improved traction, toe spike compatibility and a supportive EVA footbed with Aegis® anti-microbial treatment.
Giro Privateer R MTB Shoes Specifications:
Upper: Durable welded and stitched upper with breathable microfiber, N-1 ratcheting buckle closure (replaceable), offset strap D-ring at mid-foot, rubber toe cap
Outsole: Co-molded nylon and rubber high traction lugged outsole, mid-foot scuff guard, accommodates steel toe spikes
Molded EVA footbed with medium arch support, Aegis® anti-microbial treatment
The Giro Provateer R. The R stands for the new model the older model has better ventilation but does not look nearly as slick this newer model is lighter and has sleeker lines but if you want to save $75 just by the older model and you'll be just as happy .
I choose to use the free shipping option to Canada which was a mistake. Jenson uses ascendia as there ground shipping method. My package travelled across North America from California to New York before it reached the boarder. Then travelled from Ontario to its final destination in Vancouver, BC. It took over two weeks to deliver, which was unnecessarily slow and painful to watch on the tracking service. This complaint is directed at ascendia not JensonUSA. I called Jenson to figure out why the package was travelling east/NE instead north and they explained the reason very clearly and apologized for the tardy delivery. Thank you Jenson.
Bottom line: I should have used UPS world wide shipping and will do so in the future. I recommend you do the same.
PROS: Good connection to foot., Good Traction, Good power distribution from foot to pedal, Simple to Use, Great simple look and design
CONS: Heel slips when you hike a bike., Poor ventilation on hot days, Ratchet buckle easily pops open when it's knocke
BEST USES: Everyday riding, Using for BC Bike race and multi day alpine tour, Long-distance riding
They are pretty light, comfy, and seem to be holding up well. My only complaint is that the softer rubber on the sole (orange stuff) underneath the ball and front of my foot is getting beat up pretty fast. I think its from kicking my pedals when I get muddy and can't get my cleat back in. So that is a bit of a bummer, but the only downfall I have seen. I like em!
I had this in a warranty exchange for another giro shoes, as soon i began tu use the rubber in front of the shoe crack an the bottom of the soil break in pieces . this is my fourth giro shoes and I never buy again very poor quality for the expensive price.
